Thrift Store Assistant Manager-NE Thrift Store Department-401 TOCCOA, GAJob SummarySupervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Family Store and warehouse ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; ensures the accountability and security of cashier funds; maintains the neatness and attractiveness of store merchandise ensuring that displays remain well-stocked; assists customers in locating items and prices and explains store policy; assists employees in resolving routine problems and performing special assignments; assumes the responsibilities of the Family Store Manager as needed.

Essential ResponsibilitiesoAssists the Family Store Manager in supervising the day-to-day operations of the Family Store and warehouse area; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures:
oSupervises and participates in the cashier activities ensuring that all customers are treated in a polite and friendly manner; assists Store Clerks in ringing-up, recording, and receipting sales; assists Store Clerks in resolving problems; ensures the security and accountability of the cashier funds; assists in preparing daily sales reports and bank deposits;oAssists customers in locating items and prices; assists customers donating items; explains store policy and ensures compliance with the same;oSupervises and participates in maintaining the store displays; arranges, rotates, and re-stocks displayed items to ensure the displays remain in a plentiful, neat and orderly manner for customer convenience and store attractiveness;oDetermines appropriate prices for merchandise ensuring quick turnover of stock while also bringing a fair and reasonable price for The Salvation Army; detects merchandise that is not moving and reduces prices accordingly when necessary;oSupervises the unloading of incoming donations in the warehouse; ensures that items are properly sorted, stocked, and/or discarded in accordance with established policies and procedures; inspects appliances and furniture for needed repairs; supervises and assists in performing repair work; supervises and assists in bailing clothes;oPrepares, maintains, and files various store reports, records, forms, etcincluding community service records; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the sameoAssumes additional responsibilities in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager or Warehouse Supervisor.
Other ResponsibilitiesoPerforms work of the Store Clerk and Warehouse Worker as needed; oPerforms special projects as neededPerforms other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge of effective and efficient techniques for merchandising retail store items;Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics;Knowledge of effective customer service techniques;Ability to prepare and maintain attractive merchandise displays;Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate the work of subordinate employees;Ability to assume additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Family Store Manager;Ability to operate a cash register;Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language;Ability to perform mathematical computations and count change;Ability to use/operate various general office equipment, telephone, computer, fax machine, photocopy machine and calculator.
Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or G.

D, AND One (1) year working in a retail store preferably a Salvation Army Family Store with some experience supervising the work of co-workers, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesCertificationsNonePhysical Requirements/Working Conditions.
Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to stand for extended periods of time; Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
